HART Prize for Human Rights 2018| Dark Past, Golden Future

22 March 2018

With the most number of entries we’ve ever received, the competition was even harder with such exceptional submissions that demonstrated inspiring passion for Human Rights advocacy.

Catarina with guest creative judge Agnieszka Kolek

Catarina Felix Machado, 25, won 2nd place in our HART Prize for Human Rights Senior Creative Category 2018 with her art titled:

Dark Past, Golden Future

This artwork portrays the country of Timor-Leste. The raw dyed canvas is symbolizing their culture and the fabric work, and the painting is the representation of the Carrying Water Project, which shows the daily hardships related to issues of food security and nutrition in the country. The harsh reality of the lives of Timorese people is also represented through the intensive and dark coloured terrain of the painting while the water containers painted in gold show how significant the project is and offers a prospect of hope for the communities.
