Remember

HART believes that local priorities must be soverign, giving local people the dignity of choice and the management of their own programmes.
We respect local values, local ownership and local capacity-building as the most appropriate methods of promoting sustainable change.

Through co-operation with local partners with the requisite vision, knowledge, skills and commitment, HART strives to find appropriate aid solutions that are sensitive to local, cultural values and that aim to be replicable and sustainable in the long term.

HART is committed to channelling the maximum amount of funds possible to our partners abroad. We streamline our running costs by keeping no expatriate staff ‘on the ground’. Our local partners benefit from the dignity of choice of priorities, the authority of leadership in their own communities and the day-to-day management of projects, which are strengthened with HART resources, professional advice, training and support.

This policy enables HART to make a tangible difference in a cost-effective and sustainable way. We also seek to act as a catalyst for change, connecting potential projects with other networks of support if we do not have sufficient resources or if it is not appropriate for us to respond directly.

HART works, with local partners, in Armenia, Burma, East Timor, India, Nigeria, Sudan and Uganda in the spheres of education, environment, health, human rights, and more. HART's aid is designed to relieve suffering and sow the seeds of longer term solutions.
