HART's Funding Policy for Work in Remote Areas

Until 31 December 2009 HART has adopted a policy regarding donations for specific projects, which has been very uncharacteristic of most charitable organisations involved with humanitarian aid. We have been sending 100 per cent of any donations specifically committed for a particular project to our partners with no deduction for administrative and advocacy costs. However, from 1 January 2010, we will be changing our policy to deduct 10 per cent from such donations to help to cover the costs incurred by HART undertaking our responsibilities for both aid and advocacy.

We are deeply committed to regular visits to our partners in order to provide them with support, to assist with capacity building and to evaluate the progress of the projects we fund. We also rely on these visits to obtain firsthand evidence as a basis for advocacy on their behalf.

As HART’s mandate requires us to work with partners who are often in areas which are difficult to reach, the travel incurred may be complex, arduous and costly in terms of time and resources. Therefore, we would be very grateful if donors who support particular projects would agree to this deduction of 10 per cent for this purpose.

If any donors would prefer us not to do this, please let us know and we will ensure that the entire sum given is passed on to the relevant partners.
