Baroness Cox Interviewed on BBC World Service

8 March 2013

Baroness Cox spoke on the BBC World Service following her recent visit to Kachin State, Burma.

The interview comments on Burmese president Thein Sein’s recent visit to Europe following the lifting of EU sanctions last year. Yet ethnic national groups across Burma, particularly the Kachin and the Rohingya still suffer violent assults with tens of thousands of people displaced in the last year alone.

HART visited Burma in February 2013 to meet partners working in Shan, Karen and Karreni States to obtain up-to-date information on the political and humanitarian situation. HART witnessed evidence of human rights violations particularly in Kachin State following the breakdown of 17 years of ceasefire in June 2011.
