Baroness Cox on Radio 4’s Today Programme: “Let’s have sanctions”

27 January 2013

Baroness Cox spoke on this morning’s Today Programme following an extended interview with a seventeen year old girl who recently fled violence in the Nuba Mountains, Sudan.

This month marks the ten year anniversary of conflict in Darfur. Since then 300,000 people have been killed in Darfur and an estimated 3 million have been displaced. In the past two years, conflict has also broken out in Blue Nile and Southern Kordofan. Baroness Cox visited the two border regions in January and in this interview for Radio 4 she asked the British Government to do more: “After Rwanda we said ‘never again’. Again is happening now in Sudan”

The Today Programme interview on Sudan’s Nuba Mountains starts at 2:31. Baroness Cox’s contribution begins at 2:39. http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01qwct1
