The Next Generation of Human Rights Advocates: Palmers Green High School

10 July 2017

The HART Prize for Human Rights 2017 was a great success. With nearly 200 entrants, from ages 13-25, we were inundated with some incredible work. Entries included everything from poems, dances, songs, presentations and of course essays, and the standard was extremely high across the board. However, one school stood out. Palmers Green High School was responsible for a large proportion of the entries, and on the night 4 of it’s pupils were shortlisted in their respective categories including joint-second place in the Junior Creative Category for Leah-Perat-Balmouth and Sophia Panayi.

However, what is even more remarkable is the fact that many Palmers Green students who were too young to enter, and therefore unable to be considered for prizes, entered anyway. Inspired by a talk given to them by our fantastic volunteer, Jo Russell, created some inspirational pieces of work.

Last week (Tuesday 4th July), Baroness Cox, HART’s Founder and CEO, visited the school to say a massive thank you for all of their work and was enormously inspired by everything she saw. The children of Palmers Green presented several of their pieces to Caroline and highlighted their passion and determination to highlight the plight of some of the worlds most oppressed and exploited people in the world.

Below are a selection of photos from the visit and of the entries submitted by the school.

Thank you again from all of us at HART!
