Illegal since 1985, but today 30,000 girls in the UK are at risk of Female Genital Mutilation and there hasn’t been a single prosecution.

  Female Genital Mutilation has, in the last few weeks, become a much more visible in the public conscious. Two weeks ago it featured in an episode of Causality and last week The Sunday Times featured an article on anti-FGM campaigner, Nimko Ali, who has received death threats for speak out against the practice....

HART Visit to Burma’s Kachin, Shan and Karen/Karenni Peoples

HART returned this week from visiting the Kachin, Shan and Karen/Karenni peoples of Burma. While the international community, including the British government, celebrates recent reforms in Burma, including the freedom for the pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kii to participate in the nation’s political process and to travel abroad, the Burmese Government is responsible for escalating problems in many of the ethnic national States, including those of the Kachin, Shan, Karen and Karenni peoples....

House of Lords debate Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile

Yesterday, in a short debate in the House of Lords, Baroness Cox asked what is the British Government’s assessment of the current situation in Darfur, South Kordofan and Blue Nile. On the 10th anniversary of the start of devastating violence in Darfur, six members of the House of Lords spoke on the humanitarian crisis and asked the British Government to take further action....

Baroness Cox debates Sudan in the British Parliament

Following HART’s recent visit to Sudan, HART CEO Baroness Cox raised in Parliament the issue of the bombardment of civilians and denial of access to humanitarian aid in the Blue Nile and South Kordofan regions of Sudan, and asked what further representations have been made by the British Government to the Government of Sudan regarding these issues....
