Help our local partners realise their vision of hope for their communities

The 19th August is World Humanitarian Day, which celebrates the commitment of humanitarian workers around the world. It is also a day to recognise and remember the aid workers who have lost their lives. In 2013, there were 460 attacks on aid workers – an all-time high. The theme for #WHD2014 is #HumanitarianHeroes.
At HART, we have the privilege of working with some true #HumanitarianHeroes on the front line of the global fight against poverty and injustice. We are taking the opportunity of World Humanitarian Day to highlight some of the stories of our #HumanitarianHeroes. Six of these stories can be found by clicking the links below.
Our extraordinary partners are all people who have dedicated their lives to supporting those who are suffering. They are working in some of the world’s most difficult, dangerous and isolated regions to bring relief and protect the rights of their people. Often, these are places where others can or will not go. World Humanitarian Day is a chance to recognise the bravery and dedication which they show on a daily basis.
Their commitment to their communities, capacity for hope, initiative, kindness and humanity are a constant source of inspiration to us. They are beacons of light and hope for people around the world.
World Humanitarian Day is also a day to recognise the huge scale of the challenges faced by our partners and other #HumanitarianHeroes. In Sudan, 5.3 million people face acute food insecurity. With international aid organisations banned from much of South Kordofan and Blue Nile States, local groups are the only ones left to support vulnerable people severely affected by conflict. In South Sudan, 1.3 million people have been internally displaced since December as a result of on-going conflict; our partners in Bahr-el-Ghazal are trying to support those fleeing the conflict raging all around them. In Kachin State, Burma, 100,000 people have been displaced; many have been living in appalling conditions since conflict broke out three years ago. In northern Uganda, northern Nigeria, Timor-Leste, Nagorno-Karabakh and India, there are many challenges resulting from conflict, oppression and persecution. Today, we recognise the #humanitarianheroes working to alleviate some of these challenges.
