South Sudan
- Last week, The United Nations Security Council voted to renew sanctions on six individuals accused of obstructing a peace deal in South Sudan, weeks after formation of a Transitional Government of National Unity (TGoNU). On the government side, they include Gen Marial Chanuong, Gen Santino Deng Wol and Gen Jok Riak. From the opposition are Generals Gatwech Dual, Peter Gatdet, and Gathoth Gatkuoth. They have tasked a panel of experts to prepare a detailed report about weapon flows to South Sudan within the next 3 months.

Sudan
- The members of the Troika (Norway, the United Kingdom and the United States) released a joint statement on the aerial bombardment in South Kordofan and the de facto expulsion of the UN OCHA Head. Read it here.
- The Secretary-General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), Yasir Arman, says that Sudan’s President Omar Al Bashir “is copying and pasting the Darfur genocide experience into Blue Nile”. Arman said that instead of ending the genocide and war crimes in Darfur committed by their militias, the Khartoum government “is borrowing heavily from his experience in Darfur to extend it into the Nuba Mountains and Blue Nile, especially after they failed to recruit local militias in the Two Areas”. The SPLM-N warned against the recent deployment of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in the war-torn state of Blue Nile saying the Sudanese government plans to exterminate its indigenous population.
Uganda
- The pre-trial hearing of Kizza Besigye has been delayed due to unspecified ‘security threats’. Besigye was imprisoned for treason by incumbent president Yoweri Museveni, after the former staged his own swearing in ceremony after alleging Museveni’s election victory was illegitimate.
