Nagorno Karabakh Urgent Funding Appeal

1 December 2020

Where: Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh)

Who: Patients & Staff of The Lady Cox Rehabilitation Centre

Why: Post-conflict aid

The Aim

HART is making an appeal for £20,000 to support the patients, staff and patient families of The Lady Cox Rehabilitation Centre in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Background

On Sunday 27th September 2020, fighting erupted along the Nagorno-Karabakh/Azerbaijan border following a large-scale offensive by Azerbaijan. Heavy rocket, artillery and aerial bombardments ensued, including the use of a large number of Turkish drones, deliberately aimed at civilian targets in Stepanakert and other Nagorno-Karabakh towns and villages, including schools, kindergartens, the electricity power station and a maternity hospital. To date, thousands of people have been killed on both sides, including dozens of civilians.

Centre founder and director Vardan visits his outpatient Armen, who suffers from a spinal cord and head injury suffered during the 4-day 2016 war.

Examples of where your money will go

£33.20 will purchase all necessary medicine/dressings/diapers for one patient for a month.

£100 will provide financial support and food aid to a family of four (caring for a disabled person) for two weeks.

Funding is needed to provide:

Essential medical supplies for 250 of the most vulnerable patients, emergency relief for their families who had to flee their homes, crucial salaries for 25 key staff members and urgent repair work to blast-damaged windows and a fridge for medicines at the Centre. Funding will be spent in both Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, dependent on patient needs.

Please consider any size donation you may be able to give. If you wish to, please donate via the HART website quoting ‘Armenia’.
