Latest Humanitarian Report on Burma: March – May 2019 Briefing

5 June 2019

In the countries where our partners work, human rights issues, political events and humanitarian crises rarely reach international headlines. We have put together briefings sourcing the latest humanitarian reports and news from the past three months in Sudan, Nigeria, South Sudan, Burma, Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh, which we will be releasing this week.

Ethnic and religious tensions continue to grow in Burma, as minorities continue to face new atrocities and human rights violations. This includes the vast number of minority communities currently living as Internally Displaced People (IDP’s). However, in many parts around Burma, such as the Kachin state, steps are being taken for eventual repatriation of IDP’s.  The Burmese government continues to face criticism for its suppressive views and actions regarding freedom of expression.
