BurmaÂ
- 65,000 Rohingya Muslims have fled to Bangladesh since the Burmese army launched a crackdown in north of Rakhine state. Out of these 65,000, a third of them have fled over the past week, bringing the crisis to a new all-time high.
- 4,000 Rohingya, including 800 children, have been denied entry into China and have had to return to their camps within Burma.
- The governments of Burma and Bangladesh have agreed to talks over an estimated 65,000 Rohingya Muslims that have into Bangladesh.
- Clashes have been reported between the between the MNLA and the KNLA, the Mon and Karen ethnic armed groups. Whilst the eight armed groups who signed the nationwide ceasefire agreement (NCA) have requested a meeting with Aung San Suu Kyi and the army chief to find solutions to the ongoing armed conflict.
Nigeria
- Earlier this week marked 1,000 days since the abduction of over 200 schoolgirls by Boko Haram, that sparked the #bringbackourgirls campaign, leading to renewed calls for rescue.
- Violence was once again sparked between Fulani herdsman and local farmers, leading to ever rising tensions between the two communities.
- The Nigerian government has trimmed ties with Taiwan by moving the Taiwanese representative office out of Abuja, stating Taiwan “is not a country that is recognised under international law and under the position we have taken internationally we recognise the people of China.”

- South Sudanese economists have warned of economic collapse if peace and stability cannot be achieved.
- The South Sudan government has rejected the deployment of a further 4,000 UNÂ peacekeepers, insisting that the situation in the country is improving, despite continued conflict and draught.
