News from HART:

- We have a brand new member on our team! The wonderful Marion Brown has joined as the new Administrator and Executive Assistant to our CEO.

Burma
- Up to 10,000 people have been displaced by fighting in Eastern Burma. Conflict has arisen over the construction of a Chinese and Thai backed damn.
- Twelve people have died in the north of Burma’s Rakhine state in clashes between armed men and troops.
India
- A Dalit youth has been found dead in Punjab with his left leg chopped off. Six people all from an upper caste and residing in the same village have been booked for the murder.
Nigeria
- Twenty-one of the Chibok schoolgirls kidnapped in 2014 by Boko Haram have been freed. The release was the outcome of negotiations between the government and Islamist militants.
Chikbok Girls kidnapped by Boko Haram via BBC - Amnesty has reported that tens of thousands in Lagos are at risk of forced evictions. This is the result of the authority’s plans to demolish all irregular structures in waterfront communities within the next three days.
Uganda
- Several Ugandan nationals have been killed in a recent attack by gunmen in South Sudan. The attacks were carried out on locals travelling from Juba City to Kampala in Uganda.
Sudan
- Activists in Sudan continue to face trials as they have been charged with sentences that could lead up to death sentences and life imprisonments.
- Drug and substance abuse among youth in overcrowded camps have emerged as a new problem in the Zam Zam camp where camp leaders have expressed their concern and requested the government to track down the drug dealers.
South Sudan
- Heavy gunfire exchange between the government and the opposition forces continue in Leer Town of South Sudan. United Nations officials have recently expressed concern over increasing violence in the region.
- Cholera outbreak has claimed lives of 37 people and new reports show more than 2,000 people have now been affected. Juba is one of the worst hit regions.
