Baroness Cox raises question on Sudan’s weapons supply to SPLM

24 June 2015

On Monday, 8th June, Baroness Cox submitted a written question in the House of Lords, asking the British Government “what is their assessment of reports that the government of Sudan is supplying weapons to the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-in-Opposition”.

Rt Hon Baroness Anelay of St Johns replied on the behalf of the government that “we are concerned by recent reports claiming arms originating from Sudan have been used in the South Sudan conflict, an have raised this with the Government of Sudan, most recently with the new Sudanese Foreign Minister. We continue to call on all regional Governments to focus their efforts on the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) peace process as the best means to resolve the current conflict in South Sudan and not to take any actions that could escalate the situation further”.
