Latest Humanitarian Report on South Sudan: March – May 2019 Briefing

4 June 2019

In the countries where our partners work, human rights issues, political events and humanitarian crises rarely reach international headlines. We have put together briefings sourcing the latest humanitarian reports and news from the past three months in Sudan, Nigeria, South Sudan, Burma, Syria and Nagorno-Karabakh, which we will be releasing this week.

South Sudan

Steps towards forming the unity government in South Sudan following a peace agreement are taking longer than expected as opposition leader, Riek Machar, refuses to return to South Sudan. Thus the process has been postponed for six months. Additionally, women activists have started a petition demanding the inclusion of women in the implementation of the peace deal and the creation of the unity government. The World Health Organization and other international organizations are working to improve health conditions for IDP’s, which is especially important following a recent measles outbreak.
