Sudan: HART joins 25 other human rights groups to highlight ‘ethnic cleansing’ in West Darfur

Away from the headlines – 1,000km from Sudan’s capital city – the people of El Geneina in West Darfur are caught in the crossfire of conflict. Hundreds have been killed. Their homes, hospitals and food supplies have been destroyed. Clips from social media show a harrowing mass exodus of the civilian population.

HART is sounding the alarm. We have joined 25 other human rights groups in highlighting the local people’s urgent concerns. “The escalating violence against civilians in El Geneina”, we warn, “shows a pattern of ethnic cleansing that may further increase and qualify as serious international crimes, including possibly genocide.”
